What’s in a word?!

One word.

COLD.

It’s cold here.

Chilly.

Nippy.

Shivery.

{{I could play all day with my Thesaurus}}

Our new house has radiant floor heating and it isn’t feeling very radiant.

And yet…..

We just had to mortgage our second cousin’s, uncle’s new house to pay the propane bill.

Speaking of words……..

I see all over the internet that people do this thing where they choose a “word of the year” kind of thing.

Quite honestly, I sort of mocked it at first. Mostly because I was sure that, like New Years resolutions, I wouldn’t be able to sustain it past January 2nd.

But the thought has taken hold and bumped around in that empty space between my ears until it dawned on me that the very reason I didn’t want to do it……… provided me with the perfect word!

STRENGTH

Behind the masks. Beneath the pain. In that place where I still keep a little happiness and faith safely tucked away----I long for strength.

The strength to walk a mile……………..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The strength to smile more and to be less cynical….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The strength to say “yes” to my family more often…….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The strength to gather my family for scripture study and prayer, DAILY……..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Most of all, the mental and emotional strength to realize the difference between “my strength” and the “power of the Lord”………………..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One year.

One word.

An interesting experiment………………………….

I kinda mocked the whole one word experiment thing, too. Then last year I went ahead and picked a word and tried it. I was amazed how that one word (organize) stayed in my mind throughout the year. I like your word. gathering the family together for prayer and scripture study...daily---i totally get that daily part. why is it so hard to be DAILY diligent in this?

I am the same as pedaling. I kind of thought "Whatever" when the word thing started to become popular but I picked a word last year and put it up on my wall and I loved it.
This year I have picked the word STRETCH and I am looking forward to stretching all sorts of ways.
Strength is an awesome word! A word is also much much better than a resolution (in my book anyway!) Good luck

That's way better than a mew years resolution. I have no inkling of what word would ever enter my mind to be my 'do something for the year' word. But I love the pictures- are they of the surroundings of your new abode, and why are you not a photographer if they're yours?

you rock. strength is soooo good.
i would love to have borrowed it, or at least held your hand as we walked down the path of strength this year together, but for some reason i couldn't shake perseverance from my mind. it's been like that for weeks! so, know that my heart's with ya. (beautiful images btw, you've got an eye girly!) as for the 62nd mortgage of a distant relatives for your heating costs, i just got my power bill today, and mr LKP had to get out the defibrillator--Oy!
lub ya. ::hugs::

I love your word.
I think everyone in the world (OK at least blogland) has a word!
Strength.
Good word.
I need to get me a word.

Uh, I just need you to know....I LOVE YOUR PICTURES! Every. Single. One!
They are stunning.
I can see them hanging on a wall, maybe a couple in sepia.
You are good!

You picked a mighty fine word! I like it! I have two that keep popping into my head and I need to make a choice...or do I. Maybe they will work together...we shall see!

What a great post. It really does take strength to do all of that consistently. It takes strength to do good and be good and keep the cynicism at bay. I'm taking inspiration from you and we'll both/all try together to be our better selves this year. We'll encourage each other along the way, which, I believe, is the reason we were all placed here together. Suddenly it all makes sense, doesn't it? Here's to a great year, my friend.

Wishing you a really terrific 2011, Happy New Year!

Those photos are breathtaking. And I'm giving serious thought to this 'word of the year' thing. Thanks for making me re-think it!
