Its a Spring thing…..

Wow, that is a bad title-- but I just could not, for the life of me, crank out anything else.

Obviously I cannot crank out any correct sentence structure or grammar either…but whose noticing, right?

Spring has finally sprung a little in our corner of the world! I was so excited I almost took my chubby self outside and did me an Indian Welcome Sun Dance all over my front yard….

….but my loincloth was at the dry cleaners.

The dry cleaners saves my dignity again……

Some of you might remember that I moved into a new house in September. There was quite a bit of landscaping done by the original owners. I have been excited for Spring to get here so that I could see just exactly what was going to bloom and grow!

Guess what?!

I have popcorn trees!

Huzzah!

I have waited my whole life to have a popcorn tree. I feel completed. At least as far as foliage goes.

I also have vast amounts of rhubarb in very odd places.

Like they thought it was some kind of sacred shrubbery or something.

Well, we do NOT worship the rhubarb in this house, so I have been trying to get rid of it by giving it the evil eye. I haven’t had a lot of luck yet but I’m expecting it to pop out of the ground, pull up its leaves, and high tail it out of here at any minute.

Yes, I AM a Master Gardener, why do you ask?

Which brings me to pictures. I, of course, am NOT a Master Gardner but I would love to be one some day. I just have not had the time or space to devote to it yet. I’m hoping that here in this new house that will change. Since my blog feels naked without pictures, I thought I would include some pictures from last year when I still lived on my mountain with a garage door on my ceiling….

IMG_4854 copyI had a bit of a rough start..the deer mistook my little garden for a crosswalk…..

But we did alright in spite our all our 4 legged critter visitors. I tried the square foot method and LOVED it!

Some lovely flowers…..

This year I have actually started all my OWN little growies and they’re coming up and we are just waiting for the last frost to pay us a visit and then we will get outside and plant. For a plant nerd like me, its awfully exciting! Maybe we just need one of those Indian Welcome Sun Dances……

You must take photos of your Indian garden dances.
It's the only way to really get the garden growing.
Really.

Dry cleaners saves your dignity AGAIN? What stories have you not told? HA! I thought I read you moved. What are popcorn trees? If that evil eye works let me know, I'll try it on the blackberry invading my yard. That deer TOTALLY dis'ed your square foot garden! You started all this yourself? Grow-on girl!!! You got skills:)

There's nothing quite like gardening to get you in full Spring mode. I was bitten by the bug myself this weekend, and am smitten by flowering plants of many varieties that will be lovely on our porch and patio soon enough.

My son is so enraptured with square foot gardening that it's almost funny. And really cute, too.

I love how beautiful gardens look, but I have to absolutely force myself outside just to weed my rock beds with a few bushes so I know I wouldn't be able to handle an actual garden. I will admire other's though.

I bow to your greatness. We've lived in AZ for 13 years and I still cannot get the planting season down. When I start to think of gardening, it's already too late.

Also, I'm pretty sure having a popcorn tree is a prerequisite for the celestial kingdom.

I thought we were going to have spring, but it turned into winter again!

I should garden...or maybe just live through yours. Do the dance- I'm sure it will bring success!

You may not be a master, but you have those string things and that is way better than I do.

I too was excited for spring. And then it was 50 degrees here today. Our weather SUCKS this year.

First I love the little hoof prints in your garden picture. Sa-Weeeet!

Second I totally think you rock the gardening thing - Look at those beautiful flowers.

I have never done square foot gardening but I have been seeing it more and more and may have to give it a try.

Congratulations on your popcorn and have fun playing in the dirt chickie!

I loved your title, actually. I think that trying to come up with a name is so hard to do. I wish I could just skip that part. Why does it have to have a name anyway?

I am jealous of your rhubarb. Unlike you, we are great fans of it and I love rhubarb pie. It is almost impossible to buy rhubarb in this valley. You can't even get it frozen. I just happen to have some in my freezer, but only because my daughter who lives in Huntington Beach bought me some in her grocerty store and froze it for me. I don't know why this is so. There are a heck of a lot of stores here........all the big supermarets are represented, but still no rhubarb.

My grandson does the square foot gardening, but Dick and I don't garden at all. We leave it all to our gardener, who is actually quite good.

Aactually, I like deer, but I know they can be pests. They are just so beautiful though that I have never been able to understand how anyone could kill one.
