April 2009 General Conference

I LOVED general conference. I got to watch all 4 sessions on my computer. My family was gone so I even got to watch it in peace. I took lots of notes and I am excited for the Ensign to come so I can see how closely my notes fit what was actually said.
One of my favorite talks was given by Margaret S. Lifferth on Respect & Reverence. I know her main topic was how to better teach and encourage our children these things but I feel like there was a real message for all of us "grown-ups" also. She said that we need to teach our children:
#1-Respect for each other
#2-Reverence for God
What if everyone would just do those two things?
She challenged us to ask ourselves if our behaviors give us credibility and if we are being examples of humility and respect. I'm thinking my road rage issues are going to need to go. Dang.
She also challenged us to Exemplify, Teach, Encourage and Testify. This is one of my new goals. I want to be a better example. I want my words to have credibility because of how I live my life. Don't you just love conference??!!
As I was reading Meridian Magazine today they had an article with some statistics and a "Wordle" full of the most used words that someone had put together from this April 2009 conference. I just thought I would share. I am a statistic and word nerd but I realize not everyone will want to go through the whole list--but some of it is enlightening!

The stats here are amazing. I esp like the list of the instances of words found, and seeing what they were.

Gen conf is such a special time of year, it feels like Christmas almost. My children started asking weeks ahead of time, "Is this the Sunday we can watch the prophet on TV?"

gotta love it!

PS: I found you on Mormon Mommy blogs! ;)

That's quite the comprehensive list. My wife had the audio for conference playing on our computer for the Sunday morning session. I listened for 1 hour and 40 minutes until I heard Elder Wirthlin's voice then I realized it was last years conference. She had clicked on a link for the 2008 Conference by mistake. I thought the talks sure sounded familiar.

During that talk it made me wonder if my boys really know that I have a testimony. I don't get up in Sac. Mtg. very often. I know I have one in my heart, but do they actually know it's there? It started me thinking.

Interesting statistics.

stats are amazing. I am in awe.
I loved conference. my 14 year old daughter had her friend spend the night. I warned both of them that if she stayed all day sunday we would watch conference. both sessions.
It did not waiver either of them.
It was such a beautiful conference there was nothing said that I felt needed explaining. It was countless testimony of Christ and its amazing how just sticking to the simple basics is all we need to truly testify of christ!

Those are amazing facts you pointed out. I love how much our brains and heart took in with those great words. That is why I feel so full to after conference. I had no idea.

I loved that talk too. All of them had something powerful huh... Have a great weekend.

Wow! That took some time to put together.

I found it interesting that talk of preparedness DECREASED. I can think of only one reason- we should have already done it as the '7 years of famine' are almost, if not already, here.

I really enjoyed the talk on reverence, too. You know the speaker is talking right to you when you find yourself thinking, "Oh, boy, do I know a lot of people who need this message!"

This is very interesting! I'm going to copy it and send it to some fellow wordnerds:)
(don't you love it when you make a note of something, and look back and it doesn't fit at all? How the Holy Ghost can just sneak in and catch you listening then led you to hear something completely different???)
I like the idea of comparing notes with the Ensign:)
